COURSE DESCRIPTION

Who is This Course For? This course is for students ages 18 and up whose current, expiring WFR certification is from an organization having reciprocity with SOLO including Aerie Backcountry Medicine, ASHI, Desert Mountain Medicine, NOLS/WMI, WMA, Wilderness Medicine Outfitters, Wilderness Medicine Training Center, Remote Medical International aka Remote Medicine, and UVM. (Remember WFR is not valid without current CPR, so please either renew prior to the WFR Review, or register to take CPR with us at the end of Day One.)

What is Taught? The SOLO Wilderness First Responder Review is an intensive two-day retreat covering the standard WFR curriculum as well as new wilderness protocols. It is fast-paced, with a mix of traditional classroom sessions, hands-on practical skill sessions and scenarios to help you maintain the confidence to make critical medical decisions in a wilderness setting. This course meets and exceeds all guidance from the Wilderness Medicine Education Collaborative. Train NEK customizes each WFR Review on site to meet student needs and catch everyone up to speed. Importantly, by virtue of this being an in-person course, we’ll be practicing the art of human interaction in a dynamic environment – a critical skillset to being an excellent backcountry caregiver.

What is Included? Price of the course includes engaging and personalized instruction, real-life interaction with fun and interesting human beings, training text and materials, and SOLO WFR recertification fee. Lodging and meals are not included in the cost of tuition. Directions, a packing list, and further details are sent to students upon registration.

Again, while your SOLO WFR certification is good for three years*, CPR is only good for two years. We’ll hold an optional CPR course at the end of Day One for an additional $40 for those who need it.

*After three re-certifications, students are advised to retake a full WFR course, particularly if you are not active in the field.

What Should I Bring? WFR Review students are asked to bring clothing suitable for being active (i.e. rolling around pretending to be injured, and kneeling next to mock patients) for much of each day. You should also bring additional layers for warming and treating patients. Lodging and meals are not included. Directions to the course and a packing list will be emailed following registration.
